Around two tonnes of copper electrical cables were seized by the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) from the warehouse of a scrap yard owned by a Chinese national in the city of Beira, Sofala province.
The Chinese citizen is currently at large, but the investigating team arrested a 19-year-old electrician who, SERNIC’s spokesperson in Sofala, Alfeu Sitoe, explained, was detained at the scrap yard while attending to clients.
During this process, the young electrician allegedly contacted suppliers, received and inspected goods, and then sent the invoice to his employer for payment via mobile wallets.
