The Parliamentary Commissions on Constitutional Affairs, Human Rights and Legality, and on Social Affairs, Gender, Technologies and Media (1st and 3rd Commissions ) analysed the Draft Law on Internally Displaced Persons in Macaneta last weekend, with the aim of creating a legal framework for the protection of rights.
The document from civil society organization Observatory of Human Rights and Legality (ODHL), aims to influence the Assembly of the Republic to take the initiative of introducing a law that protects Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the country.
Speaking at the opening of the event, the Vice-President of the 1st Commission, Suleiman Habibo Fonseca, said that the Mozambican parliament – as a representative, oversight, and legislative body – expressed its commitment to this issue, which is so vital to the well-being of fellow citizens who are or may become displaced.
