The National Statistics Institute (INE) launched the 2025-2026 Economic Census, also known as the Business Census (CEMPRE), on 23 September. This statistical operation will run until January 2026, covering all provinces, districts, localities, and neighbourhoods.
Geraldo Timbe, national coordinator of the Business Census, explained that this operation aims to collect data nationwide on the identification, characterisation, and activities carried out by formal entities, companies, and other non-profit institutions such as foundations, associations, or cooperatives.
According to Timbe, the fundamental objective of the census is to “collect baseline data on all formal sector companies that produce goods, trade goods, or provide services, to enable an understanding of the country’s economic structure, update records, and produce indicators that can support the Government’s business policies.”
