Mozambique: Project against social vulnerability launched

The Minister of Education and Human Development, Jorge Ferrao, will visit five Maputo city schools considered problematic in the coming weeks.
Part of the ‘Moçambique Meu Sonho’ (“Mozambique My Dream”) project , the visit will target the Noroestet 1 and 2, Francisco Manyanga, Estrela Vermelha and Polana high schools, which have frequently reported conflicts between students.
Jorge Ferrao announced his initiative at an event in the Josina Machel Secondary School attended by school head Moreira Chonguiça, the artist Nagib, musicologist Julio Silva and representatives of the “Moçambique Meu Sonho” project a few days ago.
According to the minister, the purpose of the visit is to talk to students who “need our help” to follow the right path, citing the artists associated with the venture as examples.
“Parents and guardians are our main partners in making public schools that meet the needs of our country. We need to involve the whole of society for this project to take effect,” the minister said.
The artist explained that the “Mozambique My Dream” initiative aims to contribute to the resolution of social conflicts by cultural intervention.
“Arts bring love and peace. Children should think more about culture and sports so that they do not go astray.”
Nagib claims that the initiative is an opportunity to bring Mozambican culture and art to younger people, which, he maintains, they are currently lacking. “We need to check references of our culture that are not present and transmit them to children.”
Nagib also believes that violence in schools is a reflection of collective stress that the country as a whole is experiencing at this time.
