One hundred new buses arrive in Maputo

To cope with Maputo’s growing transport needs, a public-private partnership with the Mozambican government has acquired 100 new buses, which will enter service in the coming days.

The Chinese Yutong brand buses have already arrived in the port of Maputo and are the first half of a batch of 200, the remainder of which will arrive in February.

The acquisition is a partnership between the Ministry of Transport and Communications acting through the Transport and Communications Development Fund and ‘Sir Motors’, a vehicle importing, marketing and servicing company.

According to the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Pedro Augusto Ingles, cited by weekly newspaper ‘Domingo’, the buses will enter service in an inter-modal transport system including the rail and waterway networks of the cities of Maputo and Matola.

“The purchase of these buses will help address transport problems, increasing supply and frequency, and passengers will be travelling in the safest and most comfortable manner,” Ingles says.
