Mozambique: Music Therapy Conference at ECA – UEM, Maputo
The School of Communication and Arts (ECA) at Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) will on Tuesday (12-08) hosts the first National Music Therapy Conference to be held in the country, bringing together professionals, academics, researchers and students in the field of music therapy.
Promoted by the Escola Nacional de Música, Diapason Progetti Musical and AGAPE Moçambique, the conference is part of the ‘Building with Music’ project, and marks a decisive step toward recognizing and strengthening music therapy in Mozambique, highlighting its relevance in clinical, educational, and community settings.
During the event, the new training curriculum for Mozambican music therapists will be presented, developed based on local needs and valuing the richness of the national musical heritage. This curriculum represents a crucial step toward the professionalization of music therapy in the country, contributing to its consolidation as an area of therapeutic intervention and social development.
Highlights of the program include the presentation of the ‘Entendarte’ and ‘Construindo com a Música’ projects, as well as plenary lectures, practical workshops, and roundtable discussions that will address topics such as: ‘Music-Based Therapeutic Techniques and Approaches’; ‘Music Therapy in Hospitals, Schools, and Communities’; ‘Scientific Research and Evidence of the Effects of Music Therapy’; Professional Training and Ongoing Development’; and ‘Case Studies and Testimonials of the Real Impact of Music Therapy’.
The event is aimed at musicians, psychologists, physicians, educators, researchers, students, and representatives of health and education institutions interested in exploring and expanding the role of music as a therapeutic tool and instrument of social inclusion.
