A set of 39 real estate properties belonging to the defunct Mozambique Postal Service –, including offices, mixed-use buildings and residential properties, undergoing a process of liquidation since May 2021, are for sale nationwide, in a deal led by Broll Mozambique, a subsidiary of the South African Broll Property Group, one of Africa’s leading real estate services companies.
The buildings, mostly located in the city of Maputo, are priced between 17,000 meticais and 519.7 million meticais
In total, the state expects to raise 706,409,126.30 meticais, according to the amounts stipulated by Broll Mozambique in its property valuation.
The buildings are part of the third batch of assets being sold by Mozambique Postal Service.
Of the 39 properties for sale, 21 are offices, ten are residential buildings, and the remaining eight are mixed-use buildings.
The cheapest property, priced at 17,000 meticais, is an office located in the town of Namacura, in Zambézia province, which previously served as a post office.
The most expensive property is a mixed-use building located on Avenida Zedequias Manganhela, in Maputo City, with a sales price of 519,704,728.89 meticais.
The company’s headquarters building, located on Avenida 25 de Setembro, in the country’s capital, is not listed.
“Interested and eligible bidders should request the general terms of the tender by obtaining and completing the ‘request for information’ form,” which has been available since July 16th at the Broll Mozambique Limitada offices, states the announcement of tender no. 3 for the sale of real estate assets of the now-defunct Correios de Moçambique, in its first phase. Bids will be opened on August 8th.
Last May, the Liquidation Commission of the now-defunct Correios de Moçambique announced that the company’s facilities would be permanently closed as of June 1st, 2025, with the liquidation process already well advanced.
In a statement released to the media on May 30, the Liquidation Commission of the Mozambique Postal Service stated that the liquidation of the public company was “in its final phase”, and that the transfer of all activities to the company Correio Expresso de Moçambique (CORRE), which had been designated the country’s new Universal Postal Operator, had already been completed.
Correios de Moçambique was dissolved in May 2021 as part of the restructuring of the state-owned business sector, allegedly in response to several years of losses. The government stated at the time that “the services provided by Correios de Moçambique would gradually be provided by the private sector”.
