Residents of Nivenevene village, in Chiúre district, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, on Tuesday killed two individuals who supposedly belonged to the terrorist groups that have been operating in that region.
According to local sources, cited by the independent newsheet “Carta de Moçambique”, the two men appeared suddenly in the village and “people didn’t even bother to identify whether they were soldiers or terrorists. They wasted no time in beating the two men, taking justice into their own hands.”
“They were captured, they were not interrogated. They were beaten to death and then their bodies were burned in public”, the source said.
Recently, another individual was also beaten to death, suspected of belonging to the terrorist group that attacked the Chiúre-Velho Administrative Post headquarters.
Since last Thursday, a climate of panic has spread throughout the villages of the Chiúre district following the attack on the Chiúre-Velho Administrative Post, forcing residents to abandon their villages.
Besides Chiúre-Velho, residents of several villages in the Ocua Administrative Post have also fled their homes due to the movement of Islamist terrorist groups.
