Government spokesperson Inocêncio Impissa announced this Tuesday that the radiotherapy machine at Maputo Central Hospital (HCM) would be back in operation within days. Impissa said that staff were reorganizing the patient list so that the service could resume in good order.
The machine had been out of service since mid-2023, compromising the provision of oncology care. Its reactivation means the Ministry of Health can go ahead with developing a strategic care plan for women and children with cancer.
It is worth noting that this is the only radiotherapy machine in the country.
The government spokesperson was speaking at the end of the 26th Council of Ministers session.
