The President of the Republic, Daniel Francisco Chapo, received Chen Xinzhi, a representative of Chinese company Yucheng Group, for a meeting on Monday. Chen Xinzhi expressed his company’s interest in establishing a non-ferrous metal recycling industrial park in Mozambique.
The investment proposal envisages an annual production of approximately one million tons, the creation of 3,000 jobs, and the generation of “significant foreign currency revenue”.
This is Chen’s first visit to Mozambique. The Yucheng Group representative told the press after meeting with the head of state that the country “made a very good impression on him.”
The Yucheng Group, which has a presence in markets such as the United States, Europe, and Australia, is “seeking opportunities to establish a non-ferrous metal recycling industrial park” in Africa, and Mozambique has been identified for this project.
The Chinese group’s proposed investment in metal recycling is significant. Chen Xinzhi indicated that the “total production volume will be around one million tons per year”, which implies a considerable amount of processing for materials such as copper, aluminium and nickel.
In terms of social impact, the project is expected to create jobs. “We will create jobs for around 3,000 workers,” Chen stated.
The reception by President Daniel Chapo was a point raised by Chen Xinzhi. “We were very well received and it gave us confidence that we will work well here in Mozambique,” he reported.
The production of the future industrial park will include products such as “copper cables, electrical wires, copper wires for automobiles, among others”.
The Yucheng Group expressed its interest in swiftly moving forward with the initiative. “We will implement the project as quickly as possible in Mozambique,” Xinzhi said.
This potential investment indicates the interest of international groups in Mozambique in the resources sector, with the installation of the non-ferrous metal recycling industrial park potentially positioning Mozambique as a hub in this segment in the region.
