Mozambican President Daniel Chapo on Tuesday declared his commitment to “public-private partnerships”.
Speaking at an audience granted to the Confederation of Mozambican Business Associations (CTA), who introduced the President to the newly elected CTA leadership, Chapo claimed that public-private partnerships can speed up reform and improve the business environment.
He said the government is open to collaborating with the private business sector in the agenda of reforms to attract investment, increase national production and boost exports. He urged the CTA to present proposals for specific reforms, to deal with the difficulties businesses are facing.
The new CTA chairperson, Alvaro Massingue, told Chapo that the agenda of the CTA is based on five strategic areas expressed in its manifesto. These are: the promotion of structuring economic reforms; institutional development; the active participation of the private sector in infrastructures and in public services; the development of human capital; and the promotion of local content.
Massingue said that this month a session will be held of the Council to Monitor the Business Environment, chaired by the Prime Minister, and this year’s Conference of the Private Sector, an event usually opened by the President of the Republic, is scheduled for October or November.
