Dugongo Cimentos is to invest around US$35 million (€29.8 million) in a third cement factory in Mozambique, located in Ancuabe district, Cabo Delgado province, the company has announced.
“A more detailed concept for the factory is being drawn up and two community consultations have already been held regarding the DUAT [Right to Use and Benefit from Land]. We hope to have other community consultations within the scope of environmental licensing,” said the coordinator of the new plant construction project, Anselmo Amurane, during the first extraordinary session of the Provincial Executive Council of Cabo Delgado, held on Monday.
Without revealing the start date of the works, Amurane explained that the construction project will last 17 months, and that the Ancuabe plant will employ around 900 workers during the construction phase and about 135 thereafter.
“We also expect to contribute to the global capacity for the supply and production of cement,” he said.
According to the source from the Chinese-owned cement company, the project also aims to employ young people from Nampula province and to pass on technical knowledge, “something that is already happening in Maputo and Nacala”, where the group’s two plants are located.
Mozambique Dungongo Cimentos is owned by the Mozambican business group SPI and the China West Cement Company Limited. The new Dugongo unit will be its third.
