The European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ), with the support of the French Armed Forces in the Southern Indian Ocean Zone (FAZSOI), has successfully concluded a specialised Maintenance Training Programme aimed at strengthening the technical capabilities of the Mozambican Armed Defence Forces (FADM).
The training took place at the FADM Military Driving School in Maputo, between 16 June and 4 July, bringing together 28 FADM military personnel directly involved in maintenance services. Over the course of three weeks, participants developed both practical and theoretical skills in the technical field of automotive maintenance, with a particular focus on sustaining the equipment provided to Mozambique under the European Peace Facility (EPF).
The course was delivered by instructors from EUMAM MOZ with the essential contribution of three French military personnel from FAZSOI, who travelled to Mozambique specifically to share their expertise and deliver the training.
The closing ceremony marked not only the end of the course but also the recognition of the efforts made to enhance the FADM’s technical autonomy. Leading the ceremony was the Head of the FADM Equipment and Maintenance Department, Colonel Henrique João Sopa, and the Chief of the EUMAM MOZ Advisory Group, Navy Captain Pais Neto, who both underlined the importance of this initiative in building sustainable maintenance capacities within the FADM.
This training initiative provided participants with theoretical knowledge and practical tools, enabling the FADM to reinforce their autonomy and self-sufficiency in maintaining operational equipment — a key element in ensuring the readiness and sustainability of the Mozambican Armed Forces.
The collaboration between EUMAM MOZ, FAZSOI and the FADM is a clear example of how international cooperation contributes to strengthening local capacities, promoting peace, security, and operational excellence in the region. These joint efforts reflect the shared commitment of the European Union, France and Mozambique to developing the technical and human resources essential to ensuring progress in the fields of defence and security.
