More than 100 tonnes of citrus fruits will soon have been harvested in the orchards of Verdant Citrus Massingir which, in addition to supplying the domestic market, the citrus will be exported to the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, China and South Africa.
The data was shared on Saturday (21-06) by the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries Roberto Albino at the launch of the harvest campaign at Verdant Citrus Massingir, in Massingir district, Gaza province, southern Mozambique.
According to the minister, this is an important milestone in affirming the national potential in citrus production.
Roberto Albino acknowledged the challenges that operators are facing with regard to the supply of electricity, access roads and administrative bureaucracy, among others, and these, he said, will be a matter for assessment and subsequent intervention by the government.
For production, Citrus explores an area of 280 hectares, with plans for expansion.
