The Organized Crime Syndicate on Tuesday afternoon claimed another victim in the city of Maputo, Integrity reports. According to the same source, the victim is a six-year-old boy, grandson of the owner of the Novo Mundo company, and the son of Munir Sau.
Meanwhile, Notícias reports that the kidnapped boy is eight years old and the son of the owner of the ‘Novo Mundo’ supermarket, adding that the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) has confirmed the kidnapping and is conducting investigations and raids to neutralise the perpetrators and rescue the child.
Te Anti-Raptos Beira Facebook page also reports the child’s kidnapping.
According to reports from people close to the family cited by Integrity, the kidnapping occurred when the child was being escorted to an Islamic study centre [madrassa], accompanied by his mother. It was then that a group of individuals arrived at Mao-Tsé Tung Avenue, in the centre of Maputo, seized “little Shurain Irshad” and put him in a car, and then fled the scene.
The kidnappers are reportedly demanding six million meticais to release the child. Meanwhile, the police authorities set up check points with armoured vehicles at the exits of Maputo City, and all vehicles were forced to slow down and open their windows.
The kidnapping of Shurain Irshad went viral with an audio recording made by a relative and shared on social media, asking people to pray for the frail six-year-old boy, according to the relative, cited by Integrity.
Integrity also reports that recently the Organized Crime Syndicate kidnapped Adolfo Muholove, the chairman of the GAPI executive board, and his son, and later released them, but without their belongings.
