Japan and Portugal are committed to strengthening cooperation relations with Mozambique at various levels, with a view to improving the action plan in the sectors in which they operate.
In this context, Portugal believes that the economy and companies are the driving force that Mozambique needs for its prosperity, especially considering their solidarity, respect and cultural ties and, above all, by the common use of the Portuguese language.
This position was presented on the sidelines of the visit that a delegation from Portugal, led by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (SENEC), Nuno Sampaio, recently made to the Mozambique Pavilion at EXPO OSAKA-2025, an event that has been taking place in that Japanese city since 13 April.
“The economy and companies can cement a relationship that contributes to the development of both countries,” said Sampaio.
On the same day, the Mozambique Pavilion welcomed the governor of the Japanese city of Tottori, Hirai Shinji, who during the visit spoke of the need for Mozambique and Japan to continue to strengthen cooperation ties at various levels, highlighting that his country has been providing assistance to Mozambique in areas such as education, health, human resources, infrastructure, agriculture, among others.
Despite the existing ties, the Japanese leader said that there is more to discover about Mozambique. “After appreciating your exhibition, I found it interesting that young Mozambicans are engaged in initiatives linked to artificial intelligence and robotics, which is important for the future,” said Hirai Shinji.
The Mozambique Pavilion also welcomed a delegation from Zambia led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism of Zambia, Evans Muhanga, who reinforced the idea that cooperation between countries leverages the global economy and pointed out that it is essential for African countries to join forces to overcome common challenges.
