Mozambique was distinguished in Geneva, Switzerland, as a ‘Champion’ in the ‘Fight Against Malaria’, according to a press release from the Presidency of the Republic.
The distinction was granted yesterday to Minister of Health of Mozambique Ussene Isse, within the framework of the 78th World Health Assembly, with the minister highlighting in his acceptance that the award comes in recognition of the efforts undertaken by the government in the prevention and fight against malaria.
The efforts include the reduction of the mortality rate, intensification of spraying campaigns, mass distribution of mosquito nets, improvement of diagnostic and treatment services, as well as the strengthening of epidemiological surveillance.
The World Health Assembly brings together representatives of the 194 Member States of the World Health Organization (WHO) to define global health policies, evaluate progress and propose new strategies to respond to the main health threats.
