Mozambique: Senior official detained in Nampula

The President of Mozambique, Daniel Chapo, today begins a two-day working visit to Angola , at the invitation of his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço, to identify new areas of economic cooperation, the Mozambican Presidency announced on Thursday.
“The visit of the Mozambican head of state to Angola is an opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations, in order to give them a more proactive dynamic and identify other areas of cooperation of mutual interest, with emphasis on the economic domain”, reads a statement from the Mozambican Presidency sent to Lusa yesterday.
It adds that, in Luanda, Daniel Chapo and João Lourenço “will hold official talks to exchange views on various issues of bilateral, regional, continental and international cooperation”.

This is the Mozambican President’s second trip abroad in a week, following his first state visit since taking office in January, to Tanzania, which took place from 7 to 9 May.
Daniel Chapo will be accompanied by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Maria dos Santos Lucas, Mineral Resources and Energy, Estevão Pale, Economy, Basílio Muhate, and Transport and Logistics, João Matlombe, as well as the Secretary of State for the Treasury and Budget, Amílcar Tivane,, among others.
