Mozambique: Maputo to host Zone 4 African Boxing Championships

Alex Macuácua made history in Mozambican athletics by setting a new national record in the 10,000 meters, breaking the mark set by Pedro Mulomo that had stood for 43 years.
The young athlete, who is currently training in Sporting Clube de Portugal and is a former athlete of the Portuguese Association in Mozambique, achieved this feat at the Portuguese National Athletics Championships, held in Braga on May 3rd.
Macuácua completed the race in 00:30:01, taking 8 seconds off the previous national record (00:30:09), which had belonged to Pedro Mulomo since 1982. With this time, the Mozambican athlete ranked 3rd overall and 1st in the Under-23 men’s category.
Macuácua believes that the milestone he has now achieved is the result of his dedication, discipline and commitment to an international high-performance career. Alex Macuácua mentions that belief, desire and consistent work are the pillars for succeeding is sports.
His next big goal is to try to beat the national record in the 5,000 metres, an event that demands strategic precision as well as physical endurance.
Meanwhile, Alex Macuácua has come to notice once again by winning first place in the XXIII Mini Urban Race of São Domingos de Rana, held in Cascais, Lisbon.
Representing Sporting Clube de Portugal, the Mozambican athlete completed the 1,609 metres of the race in an impressive time of 4m20s.
“It was a tactical race, and I’m very happy to come out on top,” said Macuácua, visibly satisfied with the result.

With these achievements, Alex Macuácua continues the path of a true promise in middle-distance running.
