Mozambique: Chapo claims near total consensus in dialogue

Mozambique and Zambia will meet in Lusaka, the Zambian capital, on Wednesday (07-05), for the Ministerial Meeting of the 13th Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security session. The JPCDS session is aimed at identifying new strategies to address current challenges in the fight against cross-border crimes, improve collaboration instruments and assess implementation of the decisions of the 12th session, held in Maputo in 2024.
Wednesday’s Lusaka ministerial meeting is preceded by two days of meetings between experts beginning on Monday (05-05) and chaired by the Secretary of Defence of the Republic of Zambia, Maambo Haamaundu, and co-chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of National Defence of Mozambique, Casimiro Mueio.
At the opening of the meeting of experts, the Permanent Secretary Haamaundu highlighted the importance of a frank and thorough debate on the security challenges affecting both countries, such as irregular migration, smuggling, human and drug trafficking, as well as the growing threat of terrorism.
“Our joint efforts are essential to ensure peace and stability, which are indispensable conditions for the sustainable economic development of our nations,” Haamaundu stressed.
In the same vein, Casimiro Mueio described the meeting as an essential mechanism to address contemporary challenges that threaten the national and regional security of both countries.
“It is imperative that, in this session, we adopt common approaches and a spirit of unity, in order to ensure tangible results that consolidate the security and territorial integrity of our countries,” he stressed.
The ministerial meeting to be held tomorrow (07-05) between Defence Minister the Honourable Ambrose Lwiji Lufuma and Home Affairs Minister the Honourable Jack Mwiimbuco will be chaired by the Minister of the Interior of Mozambique, Paulo Chachine.
