As Sasol in Mozambique nears the completion of its Local Development Agreements (LDAs), the company, recently, handed over the Rumbatsatsa Community Centre in Inhassoro district, Inhambane province. The facility, built in line with priorities set by the local community, aims to meet their needs and reinforces Sasol’s commitment to local development.
The new centre is a multi-purpose space designed to foster social cohesion, capacity-building, and community well-being. It includes a meeting hall with a capacity for 100 people, an office, a rainwater collection tank, and a sanitation block. The facility is expected to serve as a hub for public services, cultural activities, and recreational events, strengthening community participation in the development process.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Sasol Senior Manager Corporate Affairs, Mateus Mosse, highlighted the strategic importance of the infrastructure. “This Community Centre is not just a venue for meetings and events, but a crucial space for social cohesion, public service provision, youth engagement, and skills development. We hope it becomes a true driver of growth for Rumbatsatsa,” he said.
Inhassoro’s Permanent Secretary, José Matsinhe, praised the partnership between the government and Sasol, emphasising its contribution to the well-being of the population. “This initiative is a testament to how collaboration between the private sector and local communities can create meaningful change. By investing in spaces like this, we are ensuring that people have access to essential services and opportunities for development,” he stated.
The local community welcomed the new facility with enthusiasm, recognising its potential for a range of local initiatives. Jaime Macuvele, a Rumbatsatsa resident, expressed his appreciation. “For years, we lacked a proper space for community gatherings and other social events. Now, we have a place where we can meet, learn new skills, and work together for a better future,” he said.
The Rumbatsatsa Community Centre is the fifth to be completed, out of a total of six built under the LDAs. Other centres have been constructed in Litlhau, also in Inhassoro, and in Chibuca, Pande 1, Chimedje, and Pande Sede in Govuro district.
These projects reflect the priorities set by the communities themselves, demonstrating a strong focus on social cohesion as a key factor for sustainable development.
