The chairperson of the Mozambican Association of Municipalities (ANAMM), João Ferreira, mayor of the central city of Chimoio, believes that the managers of the country’s municipalities and the central government must work together in order to find solutions to the people’s concerns.
ANAMM, which was set up in 2004, represents the 65 municipalities that exist in Mozambique.
According to Ferreira, who was speaking to reporters on Tuesday, in Maputo, after a working meeting with the head of state, Daniel Chapo, the municipalities are available and able to assist in whatever is necessary “for the development not only of the municipalities, but also of the country.”
“We didn’t bring a portfolio of concerns, we brought a portfolio of solutions”, Ferreira claimed. We put forward some proposals of what we believe can help”.
“The municipalities are ready to help in whatever they can”, he added. “The great change we want to make in our country is to serve everyone better.”
He also revealed that ANAMM has created a National Development Company, “which will contribute to the purchase of equipment to be shared by the municipal authorities, so that they can solve the problems of their local authorities, as well as those of the districts where they are located.”
However, he did not give any details about how the company is operating.
