Dutch businesspeople visiting Beira, central Mozambique last week showed an interest in investing in Mozambique through synergies with Mozambican businesspeople in areas such as agriculture and poultry farming. “This meeting presented to both sides of the business community the opportunities that Mozambique has in the agricultural sector. We are with more than 20 Dutch businesspeople, who are specialists in the areas ranging from agriculture and processing, poultry farming, among others,” the Dutch ambassador in Maputo, Elsbeth Akkerman, explained to journalists in Beira.
The Dutch business mission met local businesspeople today and is studying investment opportunities in those sectors through the Zambezi Valley Development Agency. According to Ambassador Akkerman, the businesspeople and the Mozambican authorities will now identify potential areas of collaboration, with a focus on agribusiness, given Mozambique’s potential in water and arable land, which allow for large-scale agriculture. “They are here to meet their Mozambican colleagues, with the ambition of working together for sustainable development,” the diplomat stressed.
Governor of Sofala, Lourenço Bulha, guaranteed local authority interest in attracting foreign investment. “We are committed to creating all kinds of facilities to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of this goal, reaffirming the granting of incentives,” he said. The Zambezi Valley Development Agency confirmed that they had heard expressions of interest from the Dutch businesspeople in areas ranging from agro-logistics and poultry farming to seed production.
