Rail traffic has been interrupted since Sunday on the Sena line between Beira and Moatize in central Mozambique, due to a “major derailment” of a 43-car coal train, an official source announced on Monday.
A train travelling with 43 wagons of coal from Moatize (Tete province) to the port of Beira (Sofala province) suffered a “major derailment”, also affecting passenger transport between the two points, a statement from the state-owned Ports and Railways of Mozambique (CFM) explained.
According to the state-owned company CFM, at least a thousand metres of railway line were damaged, and repair and maintenance work is already underway at the site.
