At least one million families will benefit, this year, throughout the country, from social assistance, to alleviate the situation of poverty and vulnerability in which they find themselves.
The support consists of monetary transfers, delivery of basic necessities, breast milk substitutes, means of compensation or payment for services by the National Institute of Social Action (INAS).
According to INAS, to date, of the more than one million planned households, 78 percent are registered, distributed across four social assistance programs, namely, Basic Social Subsidy (PSSB), Productive Social Action (PASP), Direct Social Support (PASD) and Assistance in Social Units (PAUS).
In fact, 85 percent of the target of 789,916 households are registered in the PSSB, which will benefit from a monthly income for an indefinite period.
Around 181 thousand families will be served through PASP, an initiative whose target group is families that have at least one member capable of working. This group will receive support in developing income-generating initiatives, prioritizing households headed by women, people with disabilities, chronic illnesses, the elderly or those with children who are malnourished, orphaned or highly dependent.
Support is expected for more than 90,000 households living in extreme poverty or without the means to meet their basic needs, through monetary transfers for a fixed period or payment for services designed to address situations that aggravate the degree of vulnerability, such as the impacts of bad weather.
The remaining 11,100 households will benefit from institutional care in daycare centers, support centers for the elderly, shelter for children, people with acute disabilities or those who are homeless.
An INAS document states that, for this year, the Economic and Social Plan and State Budget (PESOE), currently being prepared, plans to extend assistance to a further 110,469 families, which represents a growth of 10 percent compared to 2024.
