Women shaping the Mozambican Art Scene

The Franco-Mozambican Cultural Center (CCFM) will host this Friday, March 7, at 8 pm, in the Sala Grande, the 7th edition of the show “Who Said Women Can’t Serenade?”.
The show, part of International Women’s Rights Day, which is celebrated on March 8, highlights the talent and art of women from various parts of the world.
The project celebrates female strength and talent, bringing together different forms of artistic expression in a unique encounter. Promoted annually by Banda Kakana, since 2019, this event allows the participation of artists of different styles and artistic languages.
This will be the third time that CCFM hosts the show inspired by the song “Serenata”, from the band’s first album, which conveys a strong message of female empowerment.
Participating in this edition, the show will feature the participation of Ângela Comé (cellist), Anneliese Huber (dancer), Anita Macuácua (singer), Beauty Sitoe (singer and mbiricist), Catarina Rombe (flautist), Ema de Jesus (poet), Iveth Mafundza (rapper), Ivete Vales (saxophonist), Orlanda da Conceição (singer and bassist), Rosália Mboa (singer) and Juliana de Sousa as Master of Ceremonies.
The band Kakana was founded in 2004 by Azarias Arone, guitarist and leader of the band, and Yolanda Chicane, vocalist, currently the Kakana Band is made up of a group of six musicians. The band is widely recognized for its innovative fusion of styles such as Afro Rock, Afro Jazz, World Music and touches of Marrabenta, creating a unique sound that wins over Mozambican and international audiences.
