On Saturday night, Mozambique won the African Boxing Championship in Zone IV, a competition that had been taking place since 26 February at the Red Star Pavilion in the country’s capital.
To achieve this feat, our country won a total of 14 medals, eight gold, three silver and three bronze, beating out competition from Botswana, which this time competed with a reduced delegation. The Tswanas finished in second place, while Lesotho took the last place on the podium.
The Seychelles came in fourth place, while Eswatini finished in fifth and last place. The national boxers won eight of the 11 finals they contested on Saturday, which means our country maintains its regional hegemony with the third title in four editions, this being the second consecutive. The previous feats were in 2018 and 2022, always in Maputo.
For various reasons, there were absences of countries that usually take part in this competition, with highlights including South Africa, a strong candidate for the title, Zambia, which came second in the last edition, and Angola.
