Two hundred and forty criminal proceedings have been instituted by the Maputo province prosecutor’s office against those responsible for acts of vandalism and violence during the post-election demonstrations in this part of the country.
Of the total, nine proceedings are against agents of the Defence and Security Forces who, in their actions, exceeded the limits established by law, and one civil case against alleged financiers, reported the Chief Prosecutor in Maputo province, Evelina Gomane.
“We have cases, some with identified perpetrators and even some accused, already tried in the main proceedings. But what we are realising is that we must go beyond that and go a little further”, she stressed.
Gomane pointed out situations that in some way have a modus operandi similar to what was happening in the province of Cabo Delgado, so we must start to reflect on summary and criminal proceedings that have an impact on people’s lives and on our province, she told Rádio Moçambique.
