The repatriation of more than 7,000 Mozambicans from the districts of Morrumbala, in Zambézia, and Mutarara and Dôa, in Tete, currently refugees in the district of Nsanje and Chikwawa in Malawi, has been postponed.
The reason is the rising flow in the Shire River, which makes it impossible for boats to cross.
Previously scheduled to begin yesterday, the repatriation will be carried out as soon as the water level drops.
Interior Minister of Mozambique, Paulo Chachine, this Thursday met some of the 7,000 Mozambicans living in the Nhamithuthu refugee camp, displaced people from Morrumbala in Zambézia and Mutarara and Dôa in Tete, and assured them that security conditions in their areas of origin had been established.
Chachine appealed to those displaced to commit to returning to Mozambique, although it is not mandatory for them to do so.
