BCI has renewed its support for the Winnua Nutritional Enhancement Programme, which provides soy milk daily to schools in Mocuba Sisal, Zambézia province. The children’s snack programme also bolsters the development of the Lobué community.
BCI has acted as a strategic partner of Winnua in this initiative since 2015, providing essential nutrition to hundreds of students, an important contribution to improving student performance.
According to a project evaluation report recently published by Winnua, the programme makes an undeniable contribution to school retention, with the school dropout rate reduced from 18% in 2015 to less than 5% in 2024 with 95% of children regularly attending classes.
‘Renewing our support for this programme is a clear reaffirmation of our commitment to the future of the children of Mocuba Sisal,” Chairman of the BCI Executive Committee Francisco Costa said.
“In addition to contributing to nutrition, this initiative has a direct impact on social and community development,” he stressed. “BCI will therefore continue to be a strategic partner in the development of communities, through actions that promote a more equitable, inclusive and sustainable society.”
The Winnua report indicates that the provision of soy milk, rich in protein and other essential nutrients, has been a fundamental pillar in ensuring that children have the energy to learn and grow.
Winnua also highlights improvements in children’s health, with a reduction in cases of malnutrition, and the creation of a more attractive and motivating school environment.
Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Winnua, Father Filipe José Couto, thanked the bank for the renewal of its support. “BCI has been a true pillar of this program since the beginning, as its driving force. We are grateful for this gesture of generosity, which is providing a more promising future for children,” he said.
