The Portuguese ambassador to Mozambique, António Moura, on Friday opened a new visa application centre in the Mozambican capital in response to the increasing number of applications, an increase which stood at around 30% in 2024.
“Today, following previous steps, we are taking a very significant and important step in improving the quality of the support provided and in the capacity to respond to the growing demand for visas and other procedures,” António Moura told the media at the inauguration of the new centre.
Ambassador Moura said the larger space and doubling of the number of customer service desks would increase capacity in both qualitative and quantitative terms.
“The Portuguese state, through its Consul General Fernando Morgado, with the natural support of the embassy that represents the entire state here, has undertaken this additional effort with VFS Global,” he said, referencing the company that processes visa applications for Portugal in Mozambique.
For António Moura, the new facilities compare with “the highest level of excellence” anywhere in the world.
“This place where we now are is more than worthy, and as well equipped, including for people with disabilities, as any we have worldwide,” he stressed.
