Mozambique’s government wants sustainable and inclusive mineral exploitation and local processing. It considers this a “crucial” path to industrialising the country and creating jobs, and it defended this position at an international conference.
“We cannot just be a source of extracting and exporting wealth, but we must ensure that this wealth translates into concrete opportunities for Mozambicans throughout the value chain and in all regions of the country,” he said in a press release issued this Friday, quoting the minister of mineral resources and energy, Estêvão Pale, at the Mining Indaba 2025 Conference, which took place in Cape Town, South Africa.
The government presented Mozambique’s potential in the mining sector at the conference, advocating “responsible investment” with the aim of developing the country.
“We encourage sustainable and inclusive exploration, the preservation of the environment and that operators involve local communities to promote development,” said Estêvão Pale, quoted in the statement, during the session to present investment opportunities in Mozambique with a focus on local mineral processing.
The minister referred to reforms in the legal framework for the mining sector, improvement of the country’s geological infrastructure, emphasising the digital mineral information system and creating a specialised documentation centre to make the country an “attractive destination for responsible investments”.
Mining Indaba, held annually since 1994, brings together global operators and those interested in the mining sector, seeking to capitalise on investment opportunities on the African continent.
