More than one hundred hectares of various crops remain flooded as a result of the recent rains in Limpopo district, Gaza province.
The crops are in the low-lying areas of Chicumbane, Muzingane, Chikotane and Zonguene, Limpopo administrator Virgílio Muchanga indicated.
Muchanga believes that some crops, such as rice, were already ripe and could be recovered if it does not rain in the next few days.
“Rice really needs water at this stage of maturation, and is not expected to be lost. As to the corn crop, we have to consider 99.3 hectares that are at risk; we are also talking about the same area of cassava,” he stated.
Muchanga said that staff were on the ground finding out how many producers were affected by the situation.
