The Mozambican government has promised in the next few days to release a statement on the impact of recent protests on the country’s roads, and the failure of users to pay tolls, as soon as an ongoing assessment is complete.
“There is a lot of intense work being done with the financial sectors, but also with the transport and logistics sectors to understand the issue of TRAC’s [Trans African Concessions] losses as a company, but above all, those that the country has accumulated,” said government spokesperson Inocêncio Impissa.
Impissa added that a similar process is underway with concessionaire Rede Viária de Moçambique (REVIMO), which controls the largest number of tolls in the country.
TRAC manages the National Highway Number 4 (N4), including the Maputo and Moamba tolls.
REVIMO manages, in Maputo alone, the tolls for Bela Vista, Matutuíne; Maputo-Katembe; Costa do Sol; Zintava; Matola Gare; Kumbeza; and Macaneta.
