The Minister of Planning and Development Salim Valá says that funding cuts being implemented by the US government could affect some projects in Mozambique.
Minister Valá highlights the infrastructure implementation project in Zambézia financed under the Millennium Challenge Account as one of those that could be compromised.
Valá hopes that the US government will yet reflect on this matter internally.
“The US is an important partner for Mozambique. We hope that this will be a period of internal reflection and I think that they will then review it. For example, we have the case of the province of Zambézia, which benefited from over US$500 million from the Millennium Challenge Account, and this could be very important for the economic and social transformation of the province of Zambézia. We believe that they will resume cooperation. The United States is an important partner, they need time to reflect internally to make adjustments to their strategies, taking into account that it is a new cycle,” he said.
