The Xiquitsi Classical Music Project has been touring Brazil since January 12, participating in the Santa Catarina International Music Festival (FEMUSC) in Jaraguá do Sul.
The Xiquitsi group is presenting Mozambican and African songs.
According to a press release, FEMUSC, the largest classical music school festival in Latin America, is delighting the public with a robust and diverse program.
In total, 711 works are scheduled for performance in this 20th edition of FEMUSC, in 201 concerts distributed in 20 series.
Throughout the festival, Scar (Sociedade Cultura Artística) will host 127 presentations, divided into 13 series, with around nine concerts per day. Another seven series, totalling 74 concerts, bring music to public places in Jaraguá do Sul.
From Xiquitsi, Yara Carvalho, Shaira Chaúque, Carla Cutana, Lourena Uamusse, Alfredo Matine, Moisés Cossa and Altino Munguambe are participating in the festival, with their ‘Kilimanjaro’ choir.
In addition to participating in several orchestras, Xiquitsi will also join the opera Madama Butterfly.
In this twentieth edition, the festival pays tribute to Elis Regina’s 80th birthday, in celebration of the legacy of one of the greatest interpreters of Brazilian music.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2025, the Santa Catarina International Music Festival brings together 350 students from almost every Brazilian state and 27 countries, from January 12 to 25, for 14 days of learning, cultural exchanges and lots of music with teachers from the most renowned orchestras in the world.
FEMUSC ends on January 25.
