Mozambican president Daniel Chapo has appointed, through separate presidential orders, four counsellor judges of the Administrative Tribunal (TA), the highest body in the hierarchy of administrative, tax and customs courts, which guarantee administrative, tax and customs justice for the citizen as well as exercising control over the management and use of public funds.
The newly appointed counsellor judges are Arquimedes Varimelo, Justino Felizberto, Ivan Maluarte and Milagre Manhique.
A press release from the presidency sent to AIM yesterday states that Chapo made the decision in exercise of the powers conferred on him by the constitution.
Chapo decided to appoint four new judges following a proposal from the Superior Council of the Administrative Judiciary (CSMJA), the entity which approves policies and regulations for the training and teaching of administrative magistrates in Mozambique.
About a year ago, former president Filipe Nyusi appointed and swore in three Administrative Tribunal judges, namely Laura Simão, Ana Maela and Custódio Fernando. They were also appointed following a proposal from the CSMJA.
The Administrative Tribunal is made up of 18 judges – three in the court’s first section, the same number in the second section and 12 in the third section.
The current chief justicee of the TA is Lúcia Maximiano do Amaral.
In a separate order, Chapo appointed Adilson Adinane to the position of press attaché.
Before taking office, Adinane was press officer for the office of the governor of the southern province of Inhambane. Adinane replaces Arsénio Henriques, who held the position for ten years during Nyusi’s term.
