The 10th Legislature of the Assembly of the Republic has officially begun this Monday, January 13, 2025, with the inauguration of the deputies elected in the 7th presidential, legislative and provincial elections of October 9.
The inauguration ceremony of the new parliament started at 10:00 a.m. tis Monday, led by President of the Republic, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, in one of his last public acts as Head of State of Mozambique before handing over power to Daniel Francisco Chapo, who takes office next Wednesday, January 15.
At 85 years of age, Eneas Da Conceição Comiche, former Mayor of Maputo, is the oldest MP in the new Legislature, and will therefore symbolically read the oath of office, which marks the investiture of those elected as MPs.
According to the election results produced by the Constitutional Council, the new Mozambican parliament will have, for the first time in history, four political parties, namely Frelimo, which has been in power for 50 years; the newcomer Podemos; Renamo, which is no longer the largest opposition party; and the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM), which has gone from being the third to the fourth largest political force in the country.

The results of the 7th general elections indicate that Frelimo will continue to be the majority party, with 171 seats (it lost 13 seats compared to the last legislature), followed by PODEMOS, which debuts with 43 seats, well ahead of Renamo, which has 28 seats (it lost 32). The MDM will have eight seats (it gained two seats).
“Carta” will now publish the names of the effective members of parliament approved and proclaimed by the Constitutional Council. Representing the City of Maputo, which has 10 seats in the new Parliament, are the citizens Eneas Comiche, Helena Música, Marta Mata, Catarina Dimande and Dominic Phiri, from Frelimo; Carlos Tembe, Rute Manjate and Filipe Mabamo, from Podemos; Hermínio Morais, from Renamo; and Judite Macuácua, from MDM.
In the province of Maputo, 23 members of parliament were elected, namely Ana Comoane, Celso Correia, Isaltina Maria Biwe, Celia Macuácua, Edson Nhangumele, Sibucisso Tsure, Elcina Marindze, Calisto Cossa, Valentina Mtumuke, Leonor Mondlane, José Mutsanhe, Conceição Cuvelo and Cristina Sevene, from Frelimo; Sebastião Mussanhane, António Acácio, Alfredo Pelembe, Ivandro Massingue, Aristides Novela, Simião Nuvunga, Firmino Mabjaia, Faizal Gabriel and Luís Mussane, from Podemos; and Clementina Bomba, from Renamo.
In Gaza, with 18 seats, the following were confirmed as deputies: Verónica Macamo, Nyeleti Mondlane, Sarfina Simbine, Félia Zandamela, Elisete Machava, Helena Sitoe, Alberto Valoi, José Chidudu, Ofélia Mutombene, Alice Tamele, Feliz Sílvia, Damião Massingue, Laura Soto, Dan Matuassa, Rogério Mboa, Juscelino Bahule, from Frelimo; and Samuel Uamusse and José Chichava, from Podemos. It should be noted that this is the first time that the province of Gaza elects opposition deputies.
Inhambane province will be represented by 15 deputies, 12 from Frelimo, two from Renamo and one from Podemos. The representatives of the province of Inhambane are: Amélia Muendane, ofJoaquina Siliya, José Murripa, Dias Letela, Olinda Nhampossa, Jerónima Agostinho, Afuade Jumá, Gildo Muaga, Jacinto Chaúque, Margarida Naiete, Nelson Guirrugo and Hermenegildo Devesse, from Frelimo; Nalfa Fumo, from Podemos; and Gania Mussagy and Carlos Maiela, from Renamo.
Sofala province, with 19 seats, will be represented by Pedro Comissário, Mércia Viriato, Manuel Ramessane, Augusto Nhancanhandza, Zaida Valeta, Mouzere Moiana, Isaura Júlio, Pascoa Mambara, Mário Amaral, Teresa Minyengu, Cernilde Mendonça, Enocêncio Joaquim and Palma Pinto José Maria, from Frelimo; Chico Mapenda and Válter Mabjaia, from Podemos; David Gomes, from Renamo; and José Domingos, Sílvia Cheia and Francisco Sousa, from MDM.
Manica province, with 16 seats in parliament, is represented in parliament by the following deputies: Esperança Bias, Mariazinha Niquice, Maria Do Céu, Tendai Sianifala, Amílcar Hussein, Zeferino Paiva, Maria Saize, Catarina Dinis, Ester Masseco, Omar Bachoo, António Mainato and Etelvina Ambasse, from Frelimo; Mangaze Manuel and Albino Forquilha, from Podemos; and Maria Angelina Enoque and Saimone Macuiana, from Renamo.
Tete province has 23 seats and will be represented by the following deputies: Sérgio Pantie, Romário Alves, Ana Dimitri, Elias Niquice, Adelino Silveira, Aleixo Siedade, Matias Nhongo, Fasila Ossumane, Maria Zalimba, Elias Zacarias, Maria Ntseka, Eguela Chimbidze, Nharongue Muringa, Celestino Checanhanza, José Amadeu and Maria Cadeado, from Frelimo; Mário Manguene, Osório Caetano, António Furuma and Alex Safuri, from Podemos; and Evaristo Sixpense, Ricardo Tomas and Juliano Picardo, from Renamo.
Zambézia province, the second largest electoral district in the country, has 42 seats in the new parliament, with the following representatives: Damião José, Elísio De Sousa, Elcídio Bachita, Sulemane Fonseca, Josefa Musica, Armoly Namuera, Alsace Chochoma, Celso da Costa, Hélder Injojo, Cipriano Intushy, Raimundo Diomba, Artur Análcio, Deolinda Chochoma, Ana Jaime Kanda, Carmo Oliveira, Fatima Cossa, Edmundo Massamba, Amina Tabane, Zuria Assumane, Cambo Marqueza, Claudio Wah, Rizique Bacar, Alice Kufa, Paulo Tagalue, Sebastian Saíde, Fernando Maboia, Lucia Madeira and Jacinta Kaunga, from Frelimo; Cacildo Muicocome, Fenando Jone, Almério Tchambule, Bertil Mário and Aurélio Julião, from Podemos; Geronimo Malagueta, Inácio Reis, Raul Dique, Elisa Cipriano, José Manteigas, Latifo Xarifo, Viana Magalhães and Ivone Soares, from Renamo; and José Lobo, from the MDM.
The largest electoral district in the country, the province of Nampula, will have 48 deputies, namely, Margarida Talapa, Francisco Mucanheia, Gil Aníbal, Egidio Vaz, Nilza Dacal, Lucinda Malema, Ismael Eugénio, Luciano Castro, Vicente Abdala, Eduardo Nihia, Leonel Namuquita, Marquita Jaime, Tomé Shakushasha, Faizal António, Dionísia Cinquenta, Virginia Gondola, Anchia Talapa, Dina Chehane, Alima Sumaila, Saide Momade, Crisanto Mpila, Nerina Bustani, Alberto Vaquina, Gilberto Francisco, Leoneta Ribeiro, Lucília Hama and Ricardo Batalha, from Frelimo; Armando Joaquim, Luisa Antonio, Dias Coutinho, Gonçalves Macuácua, Atija Mussa, Bonifácio Suliva, Tome Nantar, Jafete Eurico, Adelino Puaneleque, Gabriel Macuelas and Alfonce Jorge, from Podemos; Lucia Afate, Abiba Linha, Fernando Lavieque, Arnaldo Chalaua, Carlos Manuel, Gloria Salvador and Mussabay Gani, from Renamo; and Leonor De Sousa, Fernando Bismarque and Fernão Raúl, from MDM.
Cabo Delgado province has 21 seats in the new parliament, and will be represented by Kintheyaro Aguacheiro, Francisco Cabo, Noel Nandena, Luísa Wacate, Balbina Mateus, Cruz Acácio Limão, Maria Da Silva, Buana Nchute, Sefo Sente, Helena Elias, Muanaiamo Massua, Charles Mbedo, Nunes Antage, Cassamo Selemane, Afonso Nipero, Joranta Norte, from Frelimo; Elísio Muaquina, Zainaba Andala and José Suail José, from PODEMOS; and Manuel Muacuane and Chico Pery, from Renamo.
Finally, the province of Niassa, with 11 seats, will be represented by the citizens Aires Ali, Carlos Sebastião, Juliana Júlio, Almina Mauride, Cristobal Aranha, Ana Massengele, Alberto Buanaindi, Flora Meque, Helena Gomes, Sofia Carlos, Lina Maria Portugal, from Frelimo; Angelo Jaime, from Podemos; and Saíde Fidel, from Renamo.
