Maputo Municipal Council has borrowed 10 garbage trucks from Chimoio Municipality to temporarily reinforce solid waste collection operations in the country’s capital.
The availability of the resources is a result of an inter-municipal cooperation twinning agreement signed between the two local authorities, reads a Maputo City Council statement, cited by Notícias.
“This support comes at a crucial time, complementing the efforts that have been undertaken by Maputo Municipal Council with the collaboration of several public and private partners,” the statement reads.
The support from the capital of Manica province is a temporary transfer, Miramar reports, citing the same statement. After a given period, the trucks must be returned to Chimoio City Council.
In 2023, Chimoio City Council invested 100 million meticais of its own revenue to purchase 20 brand new trucks for waste collection and road maintenance.
The integration of these ten garbage trucks into Maputo city’s operational fleet will have an immediate impact on the efficiency of garbage collection operations, contributing to the reduction of waste accumulated in the capital city’s neighbourhoods and avenues.
