After days of intense heat that have left some beaches in the south of the country overcrowded and filthy, the Central Meteorological Forecast Services (SCPM) of the National Institute of Meteorology (INAM) this Tuesday (07-01) warned of the possibility of moderate to heavy rains with severe thunderstorms in the southern region of the country over in the next 24 hours.
According to INAM, this will be felt most acutely in the province of Maputo, specifically in the districts of Matutuine, Namaacha, Boane, Moamba, Magude, Manhiça, Marracuene, cities of Maputo and Matola.
In the province of Gaza, the conditions are expected to be felt in the districts of Massingir, Chókwè, Chongoene, Bilene, Limpopo, Mandlakazi, Chicualacuala, Mapai, Massangena, Mabalane, Chigubo, Guijá and the city of Xai-Xai.
In Inhambane province, moderate to heavy rains with severe thunderstorms are expected to occur in Zavala, Inharrime, Panda, Funhalouro and Mabote.
INAM forecasts the occurrence of moderate to heavy rain (30 to 50 millimetres in 24 hours), locally heavy (more than 50 millimetres in 24 hours) accompanied by severe thunderstorms and gusty winds, starting at the end of this Wednesday (08-01) in the districts mentioned above.
INAM recommends that precautionary and safety measures be taken in the face of heavy rain and severe thunderstorms,
The INAM forecast is valid until Thursday (09-01).
