Mozambique: Former candidate Mondlane accuses attorney general's office of bias

The Government of Mozambique has set January 20 as the date for the inauguration of members of the provincial assemblies elected in the general elections of October 9.
The decision was made in Maputo on Monday at the 38th ordinary session of the Council of Ministers through a decree approved “on the proposal of the National Electoral Commission”.
On December 23, the Constitutional Council of Mozambique (CC) proclaimed the Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo), the ruling party, as the winner of the elections in all of the ten Provincial Assemblies, thus electing all of the Provincial Governors in the country.

According to the data announced by the CC president, Lúcia Ribeiro, the provincial political landscape is as follows.
Governors
In Maputo province; Frelimo elected [current governor] Manuel Tule as governor, with 461,257 votes (49.88%).
In Gaza province, Frelimo elected [current governor] Margarida Chongo as governor with 437,921 votes (78.23%).
In Inhambane province, Frelimo elected Francisco Pangula, with 268,514 votes (70.45%).
In Sofala province, Frelimo elected[current governor] Lourenço Bulha as governor with 403,391 votes (66.02%).
In Manica province, Frelimo received 357,883 votes (76.55%), with [current governor] Francisca Tomás as governor.
In Zambézia province, [current governor] Pio Matos was elected governor, as Frelimo obtained 474,965 votes (56.61%).
Domingos Viola will again be the governor of Tete province, where the Frelimo party obtained 658,350 votes (78.56%).
In Nampula province, Frelimo elected Eduardo Abdula as governor, with 413,270 votes (50.71%).
Valige Tauabo will again be governor of Cabo Delgado, where the ruling party obtained 247,672 votes (61.54%).
In Niassa province Frelimo obtained 178,757 votes (69.20%), placing [current governor] Elina Judite in the position of governor.
Provincial deputies
Out of a total of 867 seats for the ten provincial assemblies, Frelimo also won the majority, according to the proclamation of the CC, having elected 624 members of the provincial parliaments, followed by the Mozambican National Resistance (Renamo) with 97, Podemos with 67, the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM) with 58, the Democratic Revolution (RD) with six, the Humanitarian Party of Mozambique (Pahumo) with eight, the National Reconciliation Party (Parena) with five and the Social Renewal Party (Pareso) with two.
For Maputo province, Frelimo won 48 seats, Podemos 31, the MDM three and Renamo four.
In Gaza province, Frelimo won 67 seats, the MDM six, and Parena won five seats.
In Inhambane province, Frelimo won 63 seats, Renamo 10, MDM six and Pareso two.
In Sofala province, Frelimo won 64 seats, MDM 15 seats and Renamo four, while in Manica province, Frelimo won 67 seats, Renamo 10 and MDM five.
In Tete province, Frelimo won 69 seats, Renamo 10 and MDM seven, while in Zambézia, Frelimo won 63 seats, Renamo 19, Podemos 13 and MDM four.
In Nampula province, Frelimo won 63 seats, Podemos achieved its best result with 23, Renamo won 13 seats and MDM four.
In Cabo Delgado, Frelimo won 60 seats, Renamo 12, Pahumo eight and MDM five.
In Niassa province, Frelimo won 60 seats, Renamo 11, RD six and MDM three.
Since 21 October alone, clashes with the police and demonstrations called by presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane, who does not recognise the announced results, have resulted in around 300 deaths with almost 600 people shot, according to data from Mozambican non-governmental organisations.
