The Ressano Garcia border, in Maputo Province, has been experiencing peak migratory movement since Thursday, as travelers return after the festive season.
To handle the increased traffic, the Kilometer 4 service post in Ressano Garcia was reactivated on Thursday, with Mozambican and South African teams positioned there.
Among the travelers are over 4,000 mineworkers out of the 12,000 expected to visit Mozambique, with fifty percent having returned to work shortly after Christmas.
Boaventura Manhique, the Labour Ministry delegate in South Africa, explained that the sector implemented strategies to provide specialised services to the mineworkers, facilitating their return.
“We have a dedicated mineworker counter at Ressano Garcia, where they receive different treatment from the general public using the border,” he said.
Boaventura Manhique also took the opportunity to urge mineworkers in South Africa who have yet to return to adopt defensive driving practices to avoid road accidents.
