Efforts are ongoing to restore the water supply to the city of Pemba, in Cabo Delgado Province.
The service was interrupted following the destruction of the power line supplying electricity to the water systems in the region by Tropical Cyclone CHIDO.
Eugénio Matsinhe, Director of Águas do Norte in Cabo Delgado, stated that, although limited, some neighborhoods are already receiving water.
“We spent seven days without success here in Pemba, but since the 23rd, water supply has been gradually returning to normal. We are now supplying water according to the schedule we have for the city of Pemba. We’ve managed to supply some neighborhoods, although not all are receiving water yet; for example, the Mieze pumping station—one of the stations—suffered damage from the cyclone, and we are operating with only one pumping station,” he said.
