The Secretary of State for Sports, Carlos Gilberto Mendes, has claimed that the Zimpeto National Stadium in Maputo was banned by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) without undergoing a proper inspection.
In an exclusive interview with Domingo Desportivo on Rádio Moçambique, Mendes stated that the ban was based on television footage from the Black Bulls vs. Al Masry match, played for the Confederation Cup.
Mendes also accused North African teams of having undue influence over CAF’s decisions.
In a separate development, the Secretary assured that the Zimpeto National Stadium will be ready to host matches within two weeks.
