Ninety-four multi-sectoral brigades have been established to intensify the inspection of expired or deteriorated products, price speculation, and the use of pyrotechnic objects during the festive season across the country.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by Tomás Timba, spokesperson for the National Inspection of Economic Activities (INAE), who emphasized that awareness campaigns are underway to encourage economic agents to comply with the Consumer Rights Defense Law and adopt good commercial practices.
“During this festive season, we urge business owners to display prices, store products properly on shelves, avoid price speculation, and treat consumers courteously,” he explained.
Throughout the country, 550 markets were inspected this year, resulting in 54 notifications and 37 formal notices issued for various violations.
“In coordination with other entities, products valued at 25,000 meticais, mainly expired and deteriorated goods, were incinerated during these operations,” Timba highlighted.
He also noted that certain products, including potatoes, onions, tomatoes, butter beans, and horse mackerel, are experiencing price fluctuations with an upward trend, primarily due to import dependency.
