The MozYouth Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the development and empowerment of Mozambican youth, celebrates an important milestone in 2024: the placement of 500 interns in various companies across the country. This figure highlights the positive impact of the Foundation, which has been contributing to reducing youth unemployment in Mozambique through professional internships and skills training.
Of these 500 interns, 50% are women, reflecting MozYouth’s commitment to promoting gender equity in the labor market. The inclusion of women in the professional sector is a priority for the organization, which seeks to promote equal opportunities through its programs.
The MozYouth Foundation has established partnerships with companies across a wide range of sectors, including corporate, industrial, technological, and agricultural fields, as well as with 29 organizations dedicated to sustainability and environmental preservation. By collaborating with such a diverse network of partners, MozYouth ensures that young people gain the skills and experiences needed to succeed in a dynamic job market while contributing to a sustainable future.
Additionally, companies have greatly benefited from these internships, with MozYouth reporting a 50% retention rate post-internship. This indicates that a large number of interns are being offered permanent roles within the organizations where they completed their training.
“We are extremely proud to reach this milestone in 2024, reaffirming our mission to transform the lives of young people in Mozambique through real opportunities for learning and growth. The diversity of sectors where our interns are placed and the representation of young women demonstrate the positive impact we are creating in the country,” said Vanessa Muteia, Director of Operations at MozYouth.
The MozYouth Foundation was established with the support of tree private sector pillars, MozParks, FNB, and Hollard Seguros, with the belief that public-private partnerships are essential to effectively combat youth unemployment and promote economic and social development in the country. Through these partnerships, the Foundation has been able to provide young people with access to quality internships and training programs that broaden their perspectives in the job market.
