The Mozambican government has made 173 million meticais (€2.5 million) available for the electrification of the Save administrative post, in Manica province, which serves 2,000 people, Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) announced today.
The Save administrative post electrification project was financed by the Government of Mozambique, the EDM statement says, detailing that the extension of the electricity network consisted of the construction of 60 km of medium voltage line from the district headquarters of Machaze and the construction of 15 km of low voltage network.
“The project included the installation of seven 100 KVA transformer stations, enabling the connection of 1,750 new consumers and the installation of 250 street lights,” the Mozambican state electricity company announced.
The electrification project was implemented by EDM through the National Energy Fund (FUNAE).
In the third quarter, Mozambique surpassed the target of 200,000 new household connections to the electricity grid and advanced with the first 40 kilometres of the high-voltage line that will interconnect the north and south.
According to data from the budget execution of the third quarter in the Energy sector, regarding the expansion of electricity in the country, “202,213 household connections were established through the national electricity grid, corresponding to a 101% achievement of the 200,000 plan” for those three months (July to September).
On May 2, President Nyusi set the goal of completing the electrification of all administrative headquarters in the country by December and ensuring that 10 million Mozambicans have access to electricity for the first time.
Filipe Nyusi stated that, under the ‘Energy for All’ program, the goal is to “enable all administrative headquarters to be electrified” by “the end of 2024”, after the electrification “of all district headquarters” in the country last century.
