The Nampula Provincial Office for Combating Corruption (GCCC) has warned that corruption may be becoming more serious in various sectors, calling on citizens to help combat the phenomenon by reporting any suspicious cases.
The warning comes from the head of the technical department at GCCC Nampula, Aristides Maezana, who spoke to the press this Monday as part of the launch of preparations for International Anti-Corruption Day (09-12).
Maezana explained that, when people were afraid of reporting cases of corruption, corrupt individuals had more room to proceed.
Maezana announced that, in Nampula province, corruption cases from 2023 to date total 171, of which 49 cases have already been indicted and referred to the court.
Maezana said that Nampula municipal council, the education sector and the PRM had the most cases of alleged corruption, including passive corruption for lawful and unlawful acts, active corruption, embezzlement and simulation of powers.
During the week, several actions will be carried out to give greater visibility to the work being carried out in the province to combat corruption in different sectors.
