The 29-year-old woman who was run over by an Armed Forces of Mozambique (FADM) armoured vehicle is out of danger, although she remains hospitalized in Maputo.
The information was provided by the director of the Emergency Department at the Maputo Central Hospital, Dino Lopes, who explained that the patient arrived unconscious and in a serious condition, but, after medical care, is now “stable” and can interact with her family and health professionals.
“The young woman had injuries to her head. Her lower limbs, abdomen, chest and her pelvis and neck are intact and, according to the examinations we performed, she had injuries only to her head. We did not need to perform any surgical intervention. We are giving her medication treatment,” Dr Lopes explained, cited by ‘O País’.
The doctor said that the patient could be discharged in a week.
In addition to the 29-year-old patient, five more people were admitted to the hospital on Wednesday as a result of the protests.
One of them was “a young woman with injuries caused by a fall. Others had minor injuries from rubber bullets. We had two with injuries to the eye and the others to their lower limbs, possibly caused by tear gas cartridges, given the size of the wounds”, the doctor reported.
All patients were discharged and will continue treatment in health units near their homes.
