A 20-year-old man has died after being hit in the stomach by gunfire during demonstrations today in the city of Tete, a Noticias report reads.
Three other individuals aged 19, 20 and 43 suffered injuries to the chest, arm and leg in the same demonstrations, and are currently in Tete Provincial Hospital.
According to Notícias, the incidents occurred in the city of Tete’s Kwachena Market area, Mateus Sansão Muthemba, when a group of protesters clashed with the police, throwing stones. Police responded with gunfire and tear gas.
It was known that a march would begin in that area, towards the Samora Machel neighbourhood, as part of the demonstrations called by presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane in protest at the election results released by the National Elections Commission (CNE).
